November 2, 2012 ~ Grandpa Hafen's Funeral

November 2, 2012 ~ Grandpa Hafen's Funeral

I had Lucas write this post considering it was his Grandpa, Here is what Lucas wrote.

There is a lot to say about my grandfather. He was such an incredible man. He was always so kind and always wanted to help and serve others. I don’t have one single memory of him being upset or even frustrated. He was the most laid-back, down to earth man I know. He had such an incredible and successful life. I like to think that I got my athletic talent from him, but if that was the case, I would be in the NFL right now playing any position they need me to. But I absolutely loved my grandfather and I couldn’t have asked for a better example and friend in my life.

His funeral was both a happy time and a sad time. My grandfather was ready to go. My grandmother passed away over 10 years ago and he was just waiting for his time.

They first had the open casket viewing at the funeral. I was able to say my last goodbyes to my beloved grandfather. Then the ceremony went on and the daughters and friends talked a little bit about grandpa. Then, in the middle of the ceremony, all of the grandchildren sang a song that my mom wrote over 20 years ago for one of my grandfather’s birthdays. I believe it was his 70th birthday. Below are the lyrics.

My Grandma and Grandpa are special,
I love them in my family.
They do so much to make me happy
And show just how much they love me.

We may not remember all that you do,
Some memories may part.
But the one thing we'll treasure all through the years
Is the love we hold in our heart.

For days at the cabin with horses to ride
And popcorn for feeding the ducks,
Homemade bread and gum in your pocket,
7-11 and rides in the truck.

We may not remember all that you do,
Some memories may part.
But the one thing we'll treasure all through the years

Is the love we hold in our heart.

I can literally count the number of times that I have cried in my life and this was most definitely one of them. I had so many great memories with my grandpa and as we were singing this song, all of those memories just came flooding into my mind.
This song explains all of the memories that I have with my grandpa.

We would always go riding in his truck, talk with him while he was in his big recliner and go to the best restaurant in town- Chuck-a-rama!!

RIP grandpa. You were loved and admired by many. Thank you for the life you have lived, we will always remember you.

October 27, 2012 ~ Carrot Top Show

October 27, 2012 ~ Carrot top show

Luke called me from work about an hour before the show started to tell me we got carrot top tickets. So I stopped what I was doing and went to the Luxor. I wasn't sure if it was going to be a good show because carrot top just comes off as a tool, probably because his billboard is him with all his muscles hitch-hiking. But it was a way funny show. We were literally laughing the whole time! He didn't swear at all and there were minimal inappropriate jokes. He had tons of funny props and he went from one prop to the next so even if the prop wasn't funny it didn't matter because he moved right along. "DELTA" Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive.

October 11, 2012 ~ America's Got Talent

October 11, 2012 ~ America's Got Talent

We got free tickets to America's Got Talent, which was way exciting! Lucas and I knew all of the acts that were performing because we watched every episode this season. The dog act that won America's Got Talent was amazing. I don't think I could ever get bored of a dog doing back-flip, after back-flip, after back-flip. Recycle Percussion was a guest act and they were really good, way entertaining, it made we want to see their show on the strip.

October 20, 2012 ~ Taralyn's Bridal Shower

October 20, 2012 ~ Taralyn's Bridal Shower

Its crazy, Taralyn is getting married!! I am so happy for her! She had a bridal shower at Aunt Catherine's house and it was really fun! The decorations were so cute and the food was delicious. I wish I would have taken more pictures though. We played a game where you had lips and a mustache on a stick. The object of the game is to try and guess who said what answer. If we thought it was Taralyn's answer, we would put up lips. If we thought that was Jordan's answer to the question we would put up a mustache. It was a really cute and fun game.

October 23, 2012 ~ St. George for Grandpa

October 23, 2012 ~ St. George for Grandpa
Grandpa Hafen that lives in St. George is sick and will most likely be passing soon and so we all went up to St. George to see him. It was nice that Lucas and I were both able to get work off because it was the middle of the week. We went up to see him in the middle of the week because Sally didn't know how much longer he would hold on and we wanted to see him before he got too sick to talk. It is quite amazing though, he was golfing up until about 3 months ago and he has been totally independent and taking care of himself up until about a week ago. He has just gone down hill quick, a couple of his organs are shutting down. But I guess in reality that is the best way to go, independent and doing what you want and then only being bed ridden for a couple of days before passing. It was a nice trip though. At first it looked like it was going to be a very sad trip because when we first saw him he wasn't really responding to us and he was in bed. But then mid-afternoon he just woke up or something because he was in his wheel-chair outside with us and directing us how to pick pomegranates. Picking pomegranates is some hard work, I am surprised he has done it every single year until this year.  I am glad we were able to visit with him and talk with him. It was really special to be there with him and spend his last few days all together. It was like he was just holding on and waiting until he could say good bye to everyone and spend a little bit of time with them before he decided to pass.
"Grandpa, you were an amazing person and we are so thankful that you have been in our lives. Your memory will live on in our hearts, and as for me, in your golf clubs. We love you Grandpa." -Lucas

October 2012 ~ Acceptance!!

October 2012 ~ Acceptance!!

I got accepted to the Part-time nursing program at Nevada State College!! I applied for the part-time program so I would be able to have time to work while going to school. I was so relieved to open the letter and see that I was accepted because I got a letter from CSN a week or two before and it stated I was on a waiting list. I will be starting nursing school the Spring semester, January 2013.

October 6, 2012 ~ Improv-A-Ganza

October 6, 2012 ~ Improv-A-Ganza

It is just crazy Lucas was able to get tickets for Drew Carey's Imrprov-A-Ganza! We wanted to get tickets to his show a while back but found out that they only did the show one weekend every other month because all of the people in the show live out of state! He was able to get free tickets and I was so excited! Before we saw his show live we were watching this show on TV because they would show tid-bits of the live show in Vegas on TV. The show started with Drew Carey doing a solo stand-up comedy act and it was disappointing. He was practically swearing every other word  and we were about to walk out, but then the actual show started. The show was hilarious and there was no vulgar language, unlike his stand-up act.
