November 8, 2012 ~ Zarkana show

November 8, 2012 ~ Zarkana show

Zarkana is by far the best Cirque Du Soleil show I have seen so far! It had so many tricks that seemed so simple. But when you thought about the trick it blew your mind because of how difficult it is to do. This one guy went down into the middle splits and then just slinked up from the middle splits not using his arms or anything and he made it seem so easy. This one act these two strong men have a long 2x4 on their shoulders and they are flinging this girl up and down on it. The girl would go up, do a couple of backflips then land back on the 2x4. It was crazy because of how much air she was getting and how she was landing on such a small area. Another act that was amazing was this group of people, they managed to stack 4 people high. They were throwing people around like they were dolls and then catching the person in a hand-stand or standing up. If that makes any sense at all but they had no pads so it was that much more amazing. The whole show blew my mind and I was thoroughly entertained during the acts. In between the acts they had these 2 guys that would come out and fill time while everyone else was preparing for the next act. These 2 guys were supposed to be funny but they weren't at all. They just slowed the show down and I dreaded when it was their turn to come out. The show has only been on the strip for 2 weeks and so I am hoping it was slow because of that reason. I am hoping that if I get the chance to see the show again it will be smoother and they will have perfected the filler act because it was an amazing show other then the filler acts.

November 2, 2012 ~ Grandpa Hafen's Funeral

November 2, 2012 ~ Grandpa Hafen's Funeral

I had Lucas write this post considering it was his Grandpa, Here is what Lucas wrote.

There is a lot to say about my grandfather. He was such an incredible man. He was always so kind and always wanted to help and serve others. I don’t have one single memory of him being upset or even frustrated. He was the most laid-back, down to earth man I know. He had such an incredible and successful life. I like to think that I got my athletic talent from him, but if that was the case, I would be in the NFL right now playing any position they need me to. But I absolutely loved my grandfather and I couldn’t have asked for a better example and friend in my life.

His funeral was both a happy time and a sad time. My grandfather was ready to go. My grandmother passed away over 10 years ago and he was just waiting for his time.

They first had the open casket viewing at the funeral. I was able to say my last goodbyes to my beloved grandfather. Then the ceremony went on and the daughters and friends talked a little bit about grandpa. Then, in the middle of the ceremony, all of the grandchildren sang a song that my mom wrote over 20 years ago for one of my grandfather’s birthdays. I believe it was his 70th birthday. Below are the lyrics.

My Grandma and Grandpa are special,
I love them in my family.
They do so much to make me happy
And show just how much they love me.

We may not remember all that you do,
Some memories may part.
But the one thing we'll treasure all through the years
Is the love we hold in our heart.

For days at the cabin with horses to ride
And popcorn for feeding the ducks,
Homemade bread and gum in your pocket,
7-11 and rides in the truck.

We may not remember all that you do,
Some memories may part.
But the one thing we'll treasure all through the years

Is the love we hold in our heart.

I can literally count the number of times that I have cried in my life and this was most definitely one of them. I had so many great memories with my grandpa and as we were singing this song, all of those memories just came flooding into my mind.
This song explains all of the memories that I have with my grandpa.

We would always go riding in his truck, talk with him while he was in his big recliner and go to the best restaurant in town- Chuck-a-rama!!

RIP grandpa. You were loved and admired by many. Thank you for the life you have lived, we will always remember you.

October 27, 2012 ~ Carrot Top Show

October 27, 2012 ~ Carrot top show

Luke called me from work about an hour before the show started to tell me we got carrot top tickets. So I stopped what I was doing and went to the Luxor. I wasn't sure if it was going to be a good show because carrot top just comes off as a tool, probably because his billboard is him with all his muscles hitch-hiking. But it was a way funny show. We were literally laughing the whole time! He didn't swear at all and there were minimal inappropriate jokes. He had tons of funny props and he went from one prop to the next so even if the prop wasn't funny it didn't matter because he moved right along. "DELTA" Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive.
