December 31st 2015 to January 1st 2016 ~ Brian Head

On December 30th we drove up to cedar city to go snowboarding and spend time with the Hoer family. On December 31st everyone woke up to go snowboarding but Anna and I didn't feel the best. I played it safe and didn't go snowboarding but later in the morning I felt better so Lucas and I went sledding in the Cedar Canyon. Around 4pm Anna, Kloee, Mom, Dad and I drove up to Brian Head to join everybody else and spend New Years Eve at the Nielson's cabin. Bishop Nielson was nice enough to have everyone at his cabin and since Lucas, Anna and I didn't get to go snowboarding Chandler took us on the snowmobiles! I have never been on a snowmobile, they are so much fun!! Chandler compared them to a jet ski but on snow and that is exactly how it feels when riding it. At times I thought I was going to be bounced off the back and if you don't lean when you turn it can tip over. It was freezing even though we had two, yes TWO ski jackets on along with a sweatshirt and two long sleeve shirts. Good thing Jason and Chandler convinced us to wear two ski jackets! We drove on a trail to the top of the mountain and I saw the most beautiful, breath taking view I have ever seen and it made me forget how freezing I was!! We were above the clouds and could see for miles. The pictures don't give the view justice. The white hills in the background that looks like snow is actually clouds. We were able to spend a good amount of time enjoying the view and watching the sunset. When we got back to the cabin we ate pizza, played ping pong and enjoyed each others company. At 7 or 8pm we went outside and saw the torch ceremony where people ride down the soaps with lights to celebrate the new year (we celebrated it early).  Afterwards we played bean boozled, a game with good tasting and nasty tasting beans. We had to be blindfolded and then guess what our jelly bean tasted like. Sister Nielson and mom managed to pull every and any gift card from their wallet and make a prize pot equivalent to about $300!! To name a few of the gift cards it included 4 or 5 movie passes, a target gift card, and a $50 Paul Mitchell gift card. Chelsea ended up winning and shared the wealth because a lot of the gift cards were to places they don't have in Puerto Rico. Good thing we celebrated the new year early though because shortly after I started to feel shakey. I thought it was maybe because I hadn't eaten much so I ate a protein bar from my purse and ate more food but that didn't help. I thought I was dehydrated so I drank 3 or 4 cups of water. That didn't help so I took my pulse, it was 112!! Apparently with the high elevation and when the sun goes down and the temperature goes down it increases my heart rate because I didn't notice anything until the sun had been down for 2 hours or so. Despite having to head home around 10:45 due to Kloee getting sick and my heart rate the night was the perfect ending to 2015!

January 1st

On January 1st we headed up to the Nielson's cabin for some intense sledding! The Nielson's know how to sled the best way possible! We rode the snowmobiles up a steep mountain and then would sled down. Since we could snowmobile up it saved a lot of time and energy since we didn't have to hike up and we were able to go up a super steep mountain that we couldn't physically hike up! Who knew sledding could be so much fun!

December 27-28, 2015 ~ Anna's 21st Birthday

Anna's birthday celebration started Sunday night and didn't end until Monday night. Sunday night we had a family birthday dinner at the house for Anna. Anna had a plater of different desserts rather then having a birthday cake and one of the candle fell over and almost caught things on fire, Anna had to quickly blow the fire out! After dinner and dessert Diana and I spent the night and naturally we had  bowls of cereal at midnight before going to bed. Pillow talk is the best and it was so much fun having a sleepover! In the morning we went to The Cracked Egg for breakfast.

December 25, 2015 ~ Christmas Day!!

The morning of Christmas I was apparently way to excited to sleep because I woke up super early!! Since I naturally woke up so early and had been so diligent with working out 5 days a week for the last 10 weeks I wasn't stopping now! I did my 15 minute workout then I woke up Luke and we had Christmas! For Christmas day we went over to the Tielemans for Brunch and to open presents then we went to the Hoer's. We had the traditional Christmas talent show where it has become a tradition for Bryce and Chelsea to perform a dance, Hannah Hyer to perform a very very enthusiastic, animated broadway song, Lucas and I to performed a duet and of course dad perform Green Sleeves.
It was a fun night with people I love but who knew it would be so hard to get a group picture with everyone looking and no one blurry...we tried our best!

December 24, 2015 ~ Christmas Eve

I usually wouldn't like to work Christmas Eve but OIH office was only until noon and I was able to witness the true meaning of Christmas!! Dad was able to perform a Christmas miracle for a patient. The patient had been in severe pain because of her knees for a while and didn't have the money to pay for treatment so never got treatment. She finally got Medicaid but still wasn't getting the medical treatment she needed so she came to dad for a second opinion because Sally (who is in her ward) mentioned it. She accepted the fact that we didn't accept her insurance and saved up so she could pay the $160 to see dad. During the visit with dad she finally received answers as to what was going on with her knees because dad was the first one to read the MRI's with her and go into detail of what was happening. She got a cortisone injection into both knees and her pain was gone immediately. She began to cry because it was the first time she had had no pain for more than a year. Dad whispered to me to not bill her because he knew her financial situation and I helped her to the front desk. After checking out in the front she came back to me and said the lady in the front wouldn't let her pay the bill. I said Merry Christmas from Dr. Hoer and she began to cry. She bought us presents because she knew it was christmas eve and was appreciative for being seen by dad even though we don't accept her insurance and she didn't expect or think she would get anything in return. It is moments like these that make me so very grateful for my good health and grateful for my profession because I can help people and true joy comes from serving people.

For Christmas Eve we spent the night with the Tielemans! We usually eat dinner at Tony and Sallys but we mixed things up this year and went to a nice Mexican restaurant in Sam's Town. The restaurant was in the garden area of Sam's Town so we got a table on the patio to enjoy the scenery. Laurie and her new husband also joined us for dinner, which added a new element to the night (if you know Laurie you know what I mean). Laurie's husband is really nice and they seem very happy which is nice to see. After dinner we watch the Christmas laser light show in the garden area. The kids really liked it and fake snow fell at the end of it which was a nice touch!

Our presents from Sandi

Luke LOVES Benny so much that when I wanted a picture of just the two of us he insisted that Benny was in the picture also...so much for getting a christmas picture with just my husband...I hope he wants to take pictures with our kids as much as he wants to take pictures with Benny.
