July 29-31st, 2014 ~ Lucas' Goes to Boston

July 29-31st, 2014 ~ Lucas' Goes to Boston

FINALLY my dad, Sam and I took our trip to Boston! We have always wanted to go there and see a Boston Red Sox game in the oldest stadium in America. We have been meaning to take this trip for a very very long time but it kept getting put off for one reason or the other. Finally, sam and I, as a Fathers Day gift, decided to take him to a game.

The first day we got there we decided to go to the JFK library. It was my very first presidential library and I really enjoyed. We walked around seeing different pictures, memorabilia and videos. It took a couple of hours to go through the whole thing and it was well worth it. I think I would enjoy going to see other presidential libraries. My dad’s knee has still been bothering him, even after the 4th surgery! Too bad. So I told him he should get in the wheelchair and we could push him around the whole museum. After a little  encouragement, he agreed to get in it. A decision he later was happy he made.

As for the baseball game, it was a blast! So this stadium was built over 100 years ago and they didn’t care about comfort at all, they just wanted to get as many people in the park as possible. So these seats were extremely tight. We had absolutely no leg room. In fact, in order for us to not have our knees jamming up into the back of the seat in front of us, we had to tuck our legs under our chair to give us every inch we possibly could. But at least we didn’t have a pole in our way and couldn’t see. This poor lady in front of us had to have the worst seat in the whole entire park. She was right next to a pole and couldn’t see a thing. Other than that small hiccup, the game was great! The Blue Jays won! I absolutely loved going to see a game in such an iconic stadium.

We didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this trip, except on things that we wanted to see. To our family, sleeping in super nice hotel just seems like a waste of money because all you are doing is sleeping. It isn’t like you stay in the room during the day at all. So, we decided to get a room at the Motel 6. Pretty much the lowest budget room you could get, but I had no complaints. Although, they were out of non-smoking rooms so we had to stay in a smoking room (I didn’t even know they still had those). My dad is a little bit more cautious about the cleanliness of the hotel, especially a Motel 6. So he put his shirt over the pillow and used his baseball jersey as a blanket.

We also to a duck tour of the city. We wanted to get a good feel of the whole city in the little time that we were there. We found these duck tours that drove through the city with a tour guide explaining all of the different historical sites. The vehicle was modelled after a WWII car/boat. We drove it around the city seeing Paul Revere statute and the streets of Boston! Halfway through the tour our car/boat would then drive into the Charles River for a mini boat tour. We were on the river for about 20-25 minutes and then back to the streets of Boston.

We took a tour of Fenway stadium. We were able to walk to most of the places in the stadium. We got to go onto the top of the green monster and see the view from there. We made our way to the press box and other places throughout the stadium. The tour lasted about an hour and it was VERY enjoyable.

Overall, it was a great, great trip. I loved hanging out with my brother and dad. It was  a quick 3 day trip but boy was it fun!
