September 17, 2014 ~ Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour
Lucas is now selling tours as a concierge at Vdara and so he now gets to go on tours for free! I was lucky enough to be invited to go on a tour of a lifetime for FREE! A Helicopter tour of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon! We went to the Henderson Executive Airport off of St. Rose at 7:30am and we went to the Maverick terminal to await our flight to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
At first Lucas and I weren't sitting together, which is fine since its free, but then a person didn't show and so we got to sit together! The airplane was a small, really small airplane that we walked onto from the runway and seated 20 people plus the captains. Lucas and I didn't have windows, which was fine since it was free. Not having a window ended up being a good thing though because the captains were really cool and let us hangout in the cock-pit with them so we could see the great view. The captains were Cameron and Mike.
Once at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon we went to the Bright Angle Lodge and toured the grand canyon on our own for an hour. They gave us pre-made lunches that consisted of a turkey sand-which, chips, a cookie and a drink. It was a pretty good lunch and it was even better because it was free! It was a beautiful view and it was relaxing just sitting on the wall and looking out, knowing that there was nothing that I had to worry about or rush off to.
After being at the Bright Angle Lodge for an hour we went on the Helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. Lucas has been in a helicopter once before, when he went on a free tour of the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. I have never been in a helicopter, it was the coolest thing ever! I loved having the headsets to talk to each other and I was lucky enough to get a window seat and sit by my handsome husband! The view was breath taking and the whole concept of a helicopter is fascinating. When the wind would blow hard we could feel the helicopter drift and it was fun. It was a once in a lifetime experience, especially because it was free. The helicopter tour was 30 minutes, a good amount of time but it went by really quick.
After the helicopter tour we went back on the airplane to head back to Vegas. Lucas and I actually ended up passing out and sleeping on the ride home because we were tired from waking up early and from all of the adventures of the day.
At the end of the day we topped it all off with some amazing dessert from Rita's. The tour was a nice break from studying for nursing school and Lucas had been out of town the last week so it was really nice being able to spend the whole day with him.
