May 21, 2013 ~ Berkley's Birth

May 21, 2013 ~ Berkley's Birth

The story of Carrie and Jeff getting pregnant and Carrie's pregnancy is quite amazing. Carrie and Jeff went through a lot to get pregnant and Carried went through a lot during the pregnancy. Carrie was sick her whole pregnancy. She could barely keep anything down in the first trimester. She was hypoglycemic and had to test her blood sugars and eat around the clock even if she wasn't hungry so her sugars wouldn't crash. She had placenta previa which forced her to have a C-section because she couldn't delivery vaginally because the placenta was in the way. Carrie was in the hospital on bed rest for 2-3 weeks before she was born because of spotting because of placenta previa. During the C-section the doctor noticed that the placenta was starting to abrupt and that her endometriosis was coming back which would prevent her from getting pregnant again. Berkley really is miracle.  Since she is premature she is very very small and sleeps all the time. I haven't seen her eyes yet because every time I have held her or seen her she has been asleep. She has to be woken up to eat and then falls right back asleep. I love being an aunt so at though! I just love everything about babies!! I think Carrie really tells the story of Berkley the best and so I am including some words from her blog.

From Carrie's Blog:
"During my time in the hospital, we were always unsure when I was going to actually have her. I just knew that I would have to have a C-section due to placenta previa. At 32 weeks, I got shots to make her lungs develop faster, because we wanted to be cautious since chances were she was going to come much earlier than we wanted her to.

We hadn't totally decided on a name, so we felt a little rushed since she could come anytime! We narrowed it down to Berkley, Reagan, or Holland (we're both Dutch so we thought it was cute and fitting for us).

As my doctor would come visit me every few days while I was in the hospital, he kept giving me the option to either just keep waiting it out or choose to get an amnio as early as 36 weeks and if her lungs were developed then I could choose to have a c-section right then. I had a really hard time deciding and kept going back and forth. I wanted to make the right decision, because I would feel awful if she had to be in the NICU or had any serious complications. I was always told that every day they grow so much in the womb and I didn't want to take her out early if it was best not to. I'd ask my doctor, "If I was your daughter, what would you tell me to do?" and he'd just always say that there is no wrong decision.

On one hand, I didn't want to take her out early because she needed that time to grow and develop. On the other hand, I didn't want to start hemorhagging and have it be an emergency and have my doctor have to race to the hospital. I wanted it to be a controlled situation and a planned c-section. I just felt so much calmer about that decision and I just prayed that she will be healthy despite being 4 weeks early!

So at exactly 36 weeks, I got the amnio (which I was so terrified about! Um, a HUGE needle going deep into my belly and into my uterus and possibly puncturing my baby?! Scary). It was pretty crazy, though, to watch on the ultra sound my doctor putting the needle in and see the needle and the baby on the screen guiding him so he doesn't poke her! The results came back 6 hours later showing her lungs were developed so the c-section was a go! The c-section was scheduled for the next day at 5pm.
Before I got wheeled into the OR, I asked if they could wheel me to a room with a scale so I could know how much I weighed before I had her. Haha, is that weird? I hadn't weighed myself in like 4 weeks so I wanted to know!

The c-section was so strange. Jeff recorded the whole thing and I just kept saying, "This is so weird."  I just felt numb and my body was being yanked side to side so roughly and I couldn't feel anything by pressure.

and BEAUTIFUL.

The second Dr. Bohman threw her over the sheet so I could see her, I said to Jeff, "She looks just like you!"

May 18-19, 2013 ~ Lake Las Vegas Anniversary

May 18-19, 2013 ~ Lake Las Vegas Anniversary

It is crazy Lucas and I have already been married for almost 1 year. Boy does time fly when your having fun!! Lucas and I really have had a fun time together. Our work and school hours are pretty crazy though. Most nights we both come home just in time for bed but at least we always get to crawl into bed each night and snuggle! Since I am in nursing school and have school on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays we decided to celebrate our anniversary early over my semester break. The break was only a week and we both had work during the week so we left Friday for the weekend. We went to lake Las Vegas, which doesn't feel like Vegas and it seemed like a real get away! Mom and dad were nice enough to pay for our 1 year anniversary and we got a nice room at the Westin that used to be the Lowes.

We got to lake Las Vegas around dinner time and had a nice dinner together. Our dinner table out looked the lake and it was just a beautiful night with good weather. We tried to get as full as possible on the free chips (as usual) that way we could stretch our one meal into two. We are just very frugal (some say cheap) but I prefer it that way and not very many 21 year olds are buying a house (almost 21 at least). It's like a game to see how little we can spend and how much fun we can have doing it. I love it!!

Anyway, now that I'm done with my tangent. It was a good night with my handsome husband and relaxing to not have to worry about what time it was and not have to be anywhere. After getting some C-foam from the chocolate factory (Cody said we had to try it, it was okay) we went back to the room for a movie. We watched "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone". The movie wasn't as good as the trailer made it seem and I probably wouldn't ever see it again but it was still a good night snuggling up to my man! In the morning we went kayaking on the lake! On our way to kayaking we checked out and ran into my dad. It was funny we ran into him because he was supposed to be on a camping trip with the twins and he obviously knew we were there because he bought our room. Apparently they were camping and it was freezing so in the middle of the night they left and came to lake Las Vegas. Lake Las Vegas was close and they still wanted to have a fathers son trip. It was fun exploring lake Las Vegas and racing Lucas. He won the kayak race but I'm used to him winning in sport type things. He is a natural athlete. I wish I would have taken more pictures of our first anniversary trip but what's done is done and I will always have the memories!

They have a beach at the Westin and a bonfire.

My handsome man!

Lucas got 4 tickets for free to the motorcross racing at Boyd Stadium and so we took Seth and Kyrsten Jones and had a blast.

April 2013 ~ Easter!!

Our first Easter being married was filled with wonderful new traditions! At the Tielemans house we had an Easter egg decorating contest and then we had an Easter egg game. In the Easter egg game we rolled our Easter eggs towards each other and saw which one would survive the collide and not break. We also had an Easter egg hunt in the backyard. The Easter eggs were filled with candy, money and random dollar store things.  Lucas and I dominated the easter egg hunt. We got the most money and the most prizes!
At the Hoer's house we had a huge feast! It was exciting to see everyone and spend time with everyone. The Murie family came over and ate dinner with us also.
The week leading up to Easter we read excerpts from a blog each day that highlighted Christ and that was the best part of Easter. It helped me get into the spirit of Easter and remember how Christ was the best example of how we should live and how he was crucified for us. He really did suffer for us. He experienced temptations, thirst, hunger, fatigue and pain for us. He knows how we are feeling because he experienced it himself. I am so blessed to have this gospel in my life, a wonder family and a wonderful family that I have married into. Mosiah 2:41 sums up my life I feel like. It states, "And moreover, I would desire that ye shoulder consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual..."

February 16-18, 2013 ~ Snowboarding

February 16-18, 2013 ~ Snowboarding

Lucas has only been snowboarding once and that was when he was 14 years old. Since he had never really been snowboarding I was so excited for him to go because I Love snowboarding!! I thought it would be fun to teach him and I didn't mind taking it slow for him, but that wasn't the case. He was a pro! He fell a good number of times, as expected, but he kept up with me. He even does toe-edge naturally, I can't even do toe edge!! I guess I should be used to this because Lucas is just a natural athlete. But I didn't think he was going to be almost as good as me by the end of the day, which I have been snowboarding since I was 12 or 13.
But anyway! We drove up Saturday afternoon with Diana after I got done with nursing class. It was fun driving up with Diana because I don't get to talk to her that much and we were able to hear all about Cody. Cody and Diana were dating when we got married but then they broke up for a couple of months. Now Cody wants to get back together with Diana but Diana isn't sure about the whole situation. When we got to Cedar City we went to the Mexican restaurant that we always do. Its called, "Authentic Mexican food, Las casa Don Miguel".  Its so delicious! Lucas has never been to it before and since he birthday was yesterday we decided to celebrate his birthday there! They gave him a sombrero to wear, which was awesome, and we sang happy birthday to him. He is such a cute birthday boy!! That night we also went bowling! Bowling is my favorite! Dad always makes "bets" about who can get a turkey or the first person to get a strike wins something. He gets creative with his bets sometimes. I can't remember how much Lucas won, because he is good at bowling, but I know he won $$.
The next day we went to church at the historic brick church in Cedar city. We always get a family picture in front of the church because mom loves the architecture of the building. Dad started a snowball fight after the picture. I bet it was a funny sight to see, grown men in church cloths having a snowball fight in front of a church.
On Monday it was snowboarding time!!

Lecith and Ben were also with us!

Just chillin at the house in Cedar City.

The boys made a snowman on top of Diana's car, silly boys!

We met up with Rob and Krysta Boyd for Lunch! Krysta and I serve in young women's together in the Mountain Vista Ward in Vegas. After lunch we even did a run or two with them. It was fun.
